Program Notes:

Performances of my computer music work Chemical Oscillator (2011) involve improvisations on a synaesthetic virtual instrument that capitalizes on strong metaphoric ties between the behavior of cellular automata and plausible physical or chemical systems. This instrument uses procedural, cellular automata-generated video to control an array of sound synthesis modules by mapping the two-dimensional video field onto pitch, using a spatial model of the psychological distance between pitches in the equal-tempered system.
